The Good Friday Appeal is an annual fundraising activity on behalf of the Royal Children’s Hospital, in Melbourne, Australia. The event occurs on Good Friday every year. In 2019, the appeal raised over $18 million. The event is shown on Television accompanied with a mass nationwide PR campaign.

Project Overview

The Good Friday Appeal accomplish its fantastic annual drive numbers and the organisation of the largest single-day event in Victoria with only 8 full-time team members. This is an unbelievably admirable achievement and is complemented by a dedicated group of volunteers who are equally committed to ensuring the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne receives as much money as possible each year. This team size means that the Good Friday Appeal has to be resourceful and innovative to make sure:

  • The most common tasks can be automated and work at scale
  • Hundreds of volunteers are managed well and turn up to their shifts after checkin and induction
  • In excess of 60,000 financial transactions are processed securely and reliably

Execution

Vertic were first engaged in August 2017, to provide a solution to process donations online and through callcentres, as well as implement a volunteer management portal to on-board staff and assign shifts, making sure the whole event runs smoothly. Throughout the implementation, Vertic was involved in the following:

  • Vertic provided Good Friday Appeal with a dedicated Account Manager, Development Team and Project Manager, as well as a dedicated on-site Lead Developer on the day of appeal.
  • Working in agile sprints, Vertic were able to use UX and HCD design testing and processes to develop user interfaces for customer facing donation web page and internal incoming callcentre donation page.
  • Salesforce integration with Mailgun ensured real time receipt generation for donors.

The Good Friday Appeal has a powerful and scalable digital solution available to their team which has dramatically increased the efficiency of the organisation across a number of functional components, including:

  • Payments and Receipts are processed with scale, and reliability
  • Online Volunteer Induction and Self-Management portals
  • Effective Marketing Campaign Management Platform to effectively communicate with Supporters
  • Online and fully integrated Raffle Ticket management solution to sit alongside the Fundraising platform

  • Over $18,000,000.00 in annual donations processed
  • Over 60,000 individual donation transactions processed at 99.8% success rate
  • Over 10,000 individual page visits per month
  • 1,200 registered volunteers being managed using Salesforce
